Here are three poems from Robinson's latest poetry collection, published by Cyberwit, an Indian publisher:
THE FORGE
Afterwards we lay quiet,
catching our breath,
although we’d done
nothing wrong, we both
felt guilty for some
reason and we could
not let go of this
feeling but we knew
we had to,
there would be plenty
more to feel guilty
about:
I didn’t seek the life
I’ve led, it happened
along the way, I began
with no plans and as
we held onto one
another as youthful
lovers , we knew
life would be closing
in on us and forge us
into becoming
strangers.
THE RAIN PUDDLES
You can see it
in the reflections
of rain puddles,
in the windows
of passing vehicles,
in the shimmering
of sunlight and
the sighs of
shattered oceans,
you can see it
searing across the
plains of
desolation,
in the wilderness
of injustice,
you see it
every day,
you are a part of it,
the utter
hopelessness
of the unspoken
shackles that keep
us bonded and
subdued,
the absence of love
is a life of lies,
the absence of love
is death.
THE TREMBLING
They were just a few yards away,
I was drunk and stoned and
ready to sleep and I could hear
them getting heavy with each
other, it was horrible:
‘Hey, why don’t you go find
someplace else to make it, I’m
trying to sleep here, I’ve
got to go to work tomorrow’
I said best I could:
‘Fuck you!’ a male voice
screamed back ‘This is
my fucking apartment and
I don’t know who the fuck
you are or why you’re here
so you can fuck off!’
I got myself together and
staggered out of the
building, it was 3am, I
didn’t know where the
fuck I was, the cold
morning air was
beautiful and I sat on the
pavement, mumbling to
myself, rolling a smoke,
noticing my poor shadow
trembling beneath
the street-lighting.
